Strawberry Reservoir. The Best Fishing Lake in Utah
For those who are only going to visit one fishing lake, Strawberry Reservoir is the favorite of most locals. Known affectionately as "The Berry" by those who have a soft spot for it, it sits about 90 minutes from Salt Lake City near Heber and is considered one of the best stillwater fishing spots in the entire country. The specialty here is trophy-sized cutthroat and rainbow trout it's not at all unusual to pull out fish over 5 pounds on your visit. There's also kokanee salmon and other species. Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Record Trout in Northeast Utah
Heading northeast toward the Wyoming border, you'll find Flaming Gorge. What has made it popular without a doubt are its record-sized lake trout and crystal-clear waters surrounded by spectacular red rock canyons. It sits about 3 hours from Salt Lake City, so it works perfectly as a family weekend trip. The Green River just below Flaming Gorge Dam is considered one of the best fly fishing spots in the entire American West.
Sand Hollow Reservoir. Warm Water Fishing in Southern Utah
Down in southern Utah you'll find Sand Hollow, known for its turquoise waters in the middle of the red desert. Unlike most lakes you'll find in Utah, the water here is warm, which makes it perfect for largemouth bass, bluegill and catfish.
